Opening titles

The opening credits of any film are important as they tell us the genre of the film we are about to watch. They then form parts of the audience expectations so we know what to expect from the film.

Purposes of a title sequence:

-To introduce the film
-Tells us the genre of the film.
-Tells us location/setting
-Tells us information about the characters
-It gives the film a recognisable identity
-Gives information about the tone/style/pace
-Tells us the period of time the film is set in.

Key elements:

-Use of iconography
(Things we would expect to see with the genre of film)
-Gives the film a setting.
-Names the actors, directors, writers, etc.
-Use of music.
